MEC Lehari mobilises Moeka Vuma community in a debushing letsema

Closing off the Mandela month, MEC for the Department of Community Safety and Transport Management, Sello Lehari, lead a cleaning campaign at the Moeka Vuma Police Station and the local cemetery.

MEC Lehari said the most important thing is to be selfless as Madiba was.

"On this day, we remember the words of Madiba when he said 'safety and security don't just happen, they are the result of collective consensus and public investment. We owe our children, the most vulnerable in our society, a life free from violence and fear'.

"We have all dedicated today to this selfless cause, we worked together and indeed sowing the seed in order for the entire community to reap the benefits and that is how we continue to advance the legacy of Tata Mandela," said MEC Lehari.

The activity is part of the department's Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) Programme. The aim of the campaign is to create cleaner, safer communities and limit crime opportunities by targeting bushy areas that often become crime hotspots.

The community has now taken it upon themselves to work with the Moretele Local Municipality to identify more areas that require debushing as a means to keep the initiative going.
